My wife Hilary recently came across this quote from Elisabeth Kubler Ross

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE WE HAVE KNOWN ARE THOSE WHO HAVE KNOWN DEFEAT, KNOWN SUFFERING, KNOWN STRUGGLE, KNOWN LOSS, AND HAVE FOUND THEIR WAY OUT OF THE DEPTHS. THESE PERSONS HAVE AN APPRECIATION, A SENSITIVITY, AND AN UNDERSTANDING OF LIFE THAT FILLS THEM WITH COMPASSION, GENTLENESS AND A DEEP LOVING CONCERN. BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE DO NOT JUST HAPPEN.
Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

Two of her books were of great help to us after we lost our son, Jimmy.

On Life After Death

On Grief and Grieving

I sent the quote to one of my fraternity-of-loss brothers and he fired right back the link to this short, beautiful, video that expounds on Ms. Kubler-Ross’s moving observations.
